The cats are avid fans of pop culture and fill their days discussing the latest celebrity gossip, political mishaps and topical entertainment related subject matter. They also engage in plenty of mystery and intrigue, as they continually try to scheme and outmaneuver each other, most often with comical results. Meet the Cats: Honey (aka Chase), an orange and white long-haired domestic, is the oldest female of the group, and loves to eat chocolate and other sweet treats. Often referred to as "Big Mama," the Mother of the clan is not afraid to give her opinion on almost anything—whether you ask for it or not. Why Does My Older Dog Drink So Much?

!±8± Why Does My Older Dog Drink So Much?

A change occurs in his regular urination habits in that he urinates more frequently, shows signs of pain, urine has a bad order, and traces of blood start appearing in his urine. In addition, your dog starts urinating in the house and where he sleeps. If this is the case with your dog, an evaluation must be made as soon as possible.

Intake of large quantities 0f water can be signs of many underlying disorders in your dog. Cushing's disease, kidney failure, Diabetes Mellitus, Diabetes Insipidus, Hyperthyroidism, Infection of the uterus (Pyometra) Kidney or Urinary Tract Infection (Canine UTI) includes most of the disorders associated with heavy water intake. The average intake of water for dogs is about 30mi per pound in a 24-hour period. For cats it's the same.

A puppy or a young cat require a bite more intake of water than adults. But, if you notice a substantial increase in their intake, I advise you to take your pet in for an examination by a vet. In most cases, you will find that these are the signs that your dog or cat has developed a urinary tract infection.
Most times this infection is treated with one of many antibiotics available.

Antibiotics have proven very effective in treating Canine UTI plus many other infections in dogs. Your dog is put on a course of antibiotic for a period of time, usually five to ten days, and the infection is gone. Although the use of antibiotics is the choice of most veterinarians, homeopathic vets tend to disagree. They choose to use a natural remedy for the treatment of canine UTI.

It is proven that antibiotics can cause some serious side effects that in most cases could have long time adverse effects. The most serious being the weakening of the dog's immune system. This can open the floodgate to many other diseases in which the dog's body is unable to cope with.

Whatever choice you decide for treating your dog, due so with the help of the veterinarian of your choice, and weigh all factors carefully. Bare in mind, many of the natural remedies available today can be effective with no or limited side effects.
